Many of you here play the RPG's, along with a few other genres, and many of them give you the option to alter the main characters name, as well as others; in some cases they force you. Though do you do it? Or do you decide to keep the default names?
I generally prefer to keep the default names. I'm not very good with creating interesting names, and it's always nice to see what the developers had originally intended. As far as the games which force you create your own, I usually just take a name from other RPG's, other than FFVII of course. :p

I leave it default...that way it will make more sense...
that way you wont go around saying that weird name you make up..or your name in place of the main character.....

I normally leave it as the default name. On some occasions, I make one, but only if there's no default, or if its "Hero".

Default for the win! Unless of course, the name sounds really bad (Frog/Robo in CT).

Actually, I usually use the name "James" for the rpg character name, as at any point in time more than one persion will play that particular game. So we all play the same file, and want a name that suitably fits all of us. We don't use our own names ever because usually they'll limit your name to 5 characters, which doesn't let me use my full name of Jeremy, or my sister's name of Amanda, and Morgan simply doesn't like his name.
So it's J+A+M, and since my siblings refuse to go through a game named as a fruit preserve, we add the ES.
From this point on, we always use that name for Zelda, Final Fantasy, and whatever you name.

I've always used the name Jonx in my Zelda games. I dont know why. I think I heard it somewhere like from a book or something and decided that I liked it. So, on all my Legend of Zelda adventures starting from A Link to the Past, I was known as Jonx. As for RPG's, I just leave the names as they are. I really dont want to disturb any balances the game might have before I even beat it.

ahahahaha I was thinking the same thing ! =O
When it was time to put a name to robo I leave him with the R66-Y I believe it was something like that..
and frog: I leave it like Glenn.. because that was his original name...
I prefer the default names...

The default names keep the storyline sounding as it should. The only time I would change a name would be if it was blank.
