So the newest Nintendo Power has an article and review of Tales of Phantasia for the GBA, and I noticed in the screenshots that they changed Cless to Cress and Klarth to Claus. Why in the world would they change either of those, especially Klarth which is a radical change?

Its been "Englishatized". I don't know where I heard the other names, but Cress and Claus sound familiar to me.

Mostly it's because L and R are pretty much the same in Japanese, Zelda being Zeruda in Japan, and other things.

So Cless in english means Cress.

Now for Klarth, while it could be left the same because it's a cool name, If made english would be Kralth. Figuring that'd be kinda weird, and a need for the nintendo translators (who should have simply contracted the DE-Jap team for the translation) to make everything also a bit more appealing to us Americans, they made the name a bit more well known. I'd say more English but Claus isn't an english name.

And I think they changed the name in the Silent hill movie because of a need to further distance it from Silent Hilll 1. Because they hate us. Stupid trend of "Mother saves child" movies. I'm all for girl power, but come on! Harry deserves better!

Well...maybe they picked Claus due to Santa Claus? I mean, for all we know, the red cheeked, red suited, fat joyous hairy man we know as Santa is actually a thin, green haired pervert in Japan.

They really messed up this game. ._. And its one of my favorites too. But I guess its because people are so use to DeJap's SNES patch.

I don't really understand why people complain so much about name changes in games, anime, etc., when it makes no difference anyway. Was the story altered to make the names fit more?

One of my friends messaged me the other day and was telling me about how horrible it was that Asuna's name (from Mahao Sensei Negima or something) was mispronounced. If I was a violent man, I'd be smacking people left and right for even bothering to tell me this.

This thread really disappointed me. I was seriously hoping it would be about those creepy rotor vibrators the Japanese make for only God knows what. The Japanese, man, now most of the **** they do is just plain wrong.

I like North Korea.

Which had nothing to do with anything.

However I half agree with McGerkey.
I don't see the problem with changing a name.
But it doesn't annoy me that people get annoyed about it.
