The DS Redesign

You've probably been expecting this for a while, and especially this week since it Nintendo was supposedly going to reveal a new redesign for the Nintendo DS. Any who, today is that day. Nintendo of Japan has announced the redesign, which will go under the tentative name of Nintendo DS Lite.

Not only will it feature a slimmer package, but will include a brighter screen. Seeing as the DS already has a fairly bright screen I can't wait to see what it will look like.

Now as far as my opinion on this is concerned, I personally don't really care for it all that much. Perhaps it's because this one in this picture happens to be too white for my liking, but it's a good attempt all the same. I think I'll stick with my DS for the time being.

The first thing i thought was that it's too bright. I also don't like how the start and select were moved, and how the speakers were centered, although those probably bug me just because I'm used to the way it is now.

Geeze, first I hear a rumor about the redesign, then the same source tells me it's not going to happen, then It's released. Oh well, It's awful Ipody.

Here's another image via Joystiq, via 4 color rebellion. Now that I see a comparison it looks a little more attractive, although I'd still prefer some darker colors.

Eh, being lighter, that means I'd most likely drop it more. I haven't gotten a DS yet, but I probably won't get a lite one.

It looks nice and bright. And the lighter, the better, to a certain extend.

It doesn't really look that much better, but it seems they enlarged the screen a bit to match up with the PSP. I still wouldn't buy it over the PSP though.

IGN (http://ds.ign.com/articles/687/687783p1.html) released a few more screens of the DS Lite today, as well as the different colors that are set to be available for it's launch. Now that the images are coming in clearer, and of better quality, it's actually looking pretty nice. Though the one thing I feel I should complain about is the GBA portion of the DS, namely that GBA carts protrude rather than the snug fit the current DS encompasses.

Either way I’ll need to see what NOA’s plans are for a US release, whenever that is.
